Sometime today Lindsay Lohan will begin her stint in jail and while many have written her off as no longer a role model I still think she has plenty to teach. Little girls should still be told all about her. About how she was a young starlet with all the possibilities in the world but chose to party hard and think the rules didn’t apply to her. She repeatedly showed disrespect for the law, people around her and herself. Instead of working hard to fine tune her craft and further her career, she seemed to choose just to enjoy the negative press that surrounded her.
Whether it was her late night screaming matches with significant others, drunken tumbles on the sidewalk, high speed pursuits, drug use or very public fights with her fame whoring troubled family, Lindsay always found a way to stay relevant. The sad part is that I don’t think she did any of it on purpose. In her head I’m sure everything was very justifiable and that’s where the family situation comes into play. From what is put out in the media, her family is broken and each of her parents really seem to only be interested in being in the spotlight themselves. Her parents are the ones to blame for this, for encouraging their daughters behavior by reveling in the spotlight it created on them.
Every time Lindsay was in the media her parents would each be as well. They would each have their own idea on what should be done and instead of taking this to their daughter they took it to the media who would plaster their picture all over the Internet. They even had a reality television show for a while so Dinah could show how hard it was to be her. That is just ridiculous because any hardships they face are because of their actions. They encouraged the media attention instead of discouraging their daughter’s behavior.
I wish nothing but the best for Lindsay and hope that her time behind bars will teach her something. She should come out with a new outlook on life and hopefully try to better herself. There still is that actress in her and if she can do what Robert Downey Jr. has done with his career then she should be fine the rest of her life. The only thing the public loves more than seeing someone fall is to see them get back up. Everyone loves the underdog story and she certainly will be one when she tries to work in Hollywood again. But if she doesn’t learn anything except anger during her time behind bars then I fear it won’t be her last time.
So tell your child all about this girl and what her actions have brought her to. Let them know that they are lucky to be in a loving family with parents who care for them (even if they are separated) and don’t make a habit of sharing family business with the entire world. Let them see what happens when you really do party all the time and repeatedly show unprofessionalism in your workplace. Lindsay Lohan is still very much a role model, just for the wrong reasons.
