The raging debate over whether or not “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” should be rated R or PG-13 has a new active player – Stephenie Meyer. In fact, Meyer has decided to take a 100% hands on approach to making sure the movie accurately reflects her vision by taking a producers role on the last two films.
“It’s really a lot about being…in the room,” the Twilight author told the website Just So You Know. ”And it’s going to be a lot of upheaval in my life, but I felt like it was important. And then also, it’s the last one. So I kinda feel like, I’m going to commit to this for this year, I’ll get it done, and then I won’t do that again.”
Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the films, is convinced that they adapt “Breaking Dawn” in a faithful way without making the films R- rated, and producer Wyck Godfrey is confident that they can make the films exciting, and age appropriate for their audience.
“I’m unwavering in my belief that these will be PG-13 movies. And really, I say that not because I know what we’re shooting but because I feel that they should be. I feel like the audience of the books and the movies, many of them are under 18…I can’t make an R-rated conclusion to the franchise.”
This common sense argument seems all the more likely to prevail given the fact that Meyer’s Mormon faith is against rated-R movies, and counsels against watching them. It seems as though parents don’t have to worry about whether the finale of the “Twilight” series will be family appropriate - Stephenie Meyer is on the case.
