Twilight Breaking Dawn Rating’s Battle: Stephanie Meyer Steps In!

By Bridget Tyler on July 22nd, 2010

The raging debate over whether or not “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” should be rated R or PG-13 has a new active player – Stephenie Meyer.  In fact, Meyer has decided to take a 100% hands on approach to making sure the movie accurately reflects her vision by taking a producers role on the last two films.

“It’s really a lot about being…in the room,” the Twilight author told the website Just So You Know. ”And it’s going to be a lot of upheaval in my life, but I felt like it was important. And then also, it’s the last one. So I kinda feel like, I’m going to commit to this for this year, I’ll get it done, and then I won’t do that again.”

Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the films, is convinced that they adapt “Breaking Dawn” in a faithful way without making the films R- rated, and producer Wyck Godfrey is confident that they can make the films exciting, and age appropriate for their audience.

“I’m unwavering in my belief that these will be PG-13 movies. And really, I say that not because I know what we’re shooting but because I feel that they should be. I feel like the audience of the books and the movies, many of them are under 18…I can’t make an R-rated conclusion to the franchise.”

This common sense argument seems all the more likely to prevail given the fact that Meyer’s Mormon faith is against rated-R movies, and counsels against watching them.  It seems as though parents don’t have to worry about whether the finale of the “Twilight” series will be family appropriate - Stephenie Meyer is on the case.

I really love the movies but prefer the books simply because the movies leave a lot of the good stuff out. I really hope Breaking Dawn is different. The first book may have been more for the younger (late teens) but as the story progesses it has attracted an older crowd and I think it’s unfair to leave something out because it may not be suitable for younger viewers. Rate it 16 then. 16 year olds aren’t stupid. Heck, 13 year olds are stupid either. Please don’t leave the good stuff out!
