Holy Sh$t, You’re Pregnant! Guide: So you think you’re pregnant (Part I)

By Tiffany on August 3rd, 2010

It seems as though us women have an innate sense when it comes to pregnancy even before the pee stick turns blue. Assuming you don’t plan on being on the next season of “I didn’t know I was pregnant” – you will probably want to take a second look at some of the little physical changes you may be experiencing if you are indeed preggers. Also, may I add – There is no Dr. in front of my name so please see a doctor if you’re experiencing more than 1 of the symptoms below!

1. Tired?
If you’re feeling like you just overdosed on night time cold medicine – there might be a reason… like you’re making another human being inside of you. You’re not super women so this does take massive amount of energy to do, but hang in there this will pass. If you’ve given up coffee at this point – You are a martyr!

2. Nauseous?
Unless the stomach flu is running a muck where you are, nausea or “morning (afternoon, night) symptoms are usually a dead giveaway. If you’ve never experienced nausea before – it’s a little like being seasick. If you’ve never been on a boat – think of your all-time favorite food – now if just the thought of that makes you gag and your stomach heave like the night after a plateful of martinis does to you – then there you have it – Nausea! Side note: Before you freak out and think you may be pregnant – check your temperature – you never know you could also be sick with the flu.

3. Dizzy?
Now it might seem similar to you, but for someone experiencing it dizziness is awful, and completely different than your run-of-the-mill nausea. Now, let me break it down: You know that feeling you have after having one too many, when you’re lying in bed staring up at the ceiling and you feel the whole world spinning? That’s what it feels like to be dizzy – and If you haven’t had a close encounter with your Euro friends Smirnoff or Jager – then a trip to the doctor might be in order.

4. Pi$$ing like a Racehorse?
Women find that in the early stages of pregnancy the feeling to urinate is almost constant. If you can’t make it through the night, work meeting, or a bottle of water without running to the ‘loo you might be pregnant. Why does this happen? When you’re pregnant the amount of blood in your body increases which means that fluid is getting processed a whole lot faster than normal. When you go to sleep – the fluid you retained in your legs and feet make its way back into the bloodstream and through your bladder. Also as your uterus grows it will also trigger you bladder more so than normal.

5. Crazy Animal Senses?
Are you convinced that if up against a drug dog you could sniff out the competition? Pregnant women frequently confess that they their sense of smell has overtaken their body. This is absolutely normal. When you’re pregnant your hormones have gone bat shit crazy especially your pheromone and olfactory receptors. This makes you highly sensitive to every smell and is nature’s “oh-so-fun-for-everyone-but-you” way to decide whether or not food is spoiled or their danger lingering at the next corner. Since we’re not cave people anyone, and we have about 1 million more things to smell than the average “Jane” – this might not be a blessing, but like everything else it will pass.
