Josie Brooklyn Duggar: Doing ‘Remarkable’ (Watch!)

By Heather B on August 3rd, 2010

The 19th child of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar has already faced many challenges in her young life.  However, her rocky road appears to have been paved smooth again, as mom Michelle told Meredith Vieira on the Today Show that the family’s new addition is doing, “remarkable.”

Now 8 months old, Josie was born at just 25 weeks after Michelle was diagnosed with preeclampsia – a rare condition during pregnancy that causes high blood pressure.  Josie arrived weighing only 1 lb., 6 oz., and her bowel perforated eight days later, the Duggers told People Magazine.

This morning, the family gathered for an interview with the Today Show to tell a different story – Josie is out of the hospital and healthy, having gained 10 lbs since her birth.

Michelle is also doing much better after the birth, and amazingly would still consider having yet another baby! “We’ll just wait and see what God has in store,” the mother of 19 told Vieira, “When we look at Josie… how we went through the challenge we did, we would do it again.”

My wife also had preeclampsia while she was pregnant. After looking around for what we should expect because of it, we found there were no books written for parents dealing with preeclampsia. Every book is written by doctors for doctors. I am proud to have written A Mom and Dad’s Guide to Preeclampsia as a guidebook for parents on how to have a happy and successful pregnancy! It was actually published 9 months after our son was born, sort of it’s own birth ;) You can find out more information on mypreeclampsia.com or you can order a copy on lulu.com. Also, 10% of all profits will be going to help fund Preeclampsia Research to help find a cure for this disease.. Thank you and God Bless!
