When parents encourage their children to get a part time job, I doubt that this is what they had in mind…
A twelve year old girl was arrested Wednesday for peddling crack and pot – one of 43 people arrested as part of a massive drug ring, authorities said.
The New York Post reveals that the girl (whose name cannot be released because of her age) had been selling drugs on a Queens street corner. The police who took her into custody were shocked to find out her age.
“She does not look 12,” said NYPD Inspector Michael Bryan.
The police department was quick to point out that the girl’s parents were not connected to the drug ring, and that they were still trying to identify who roped her in.
But should the parents have known what their child was up to?
On the one hand, having been a 12 year old girl myself, I know that there is a lot that you can hide from your parents. And this girl sounds like she’s pretty resourceful.
On the other, you’d think that new clothes, shoes and bags (I’m assuming that those are the sort of things that the girl was buying with her money) or a shoebox full of cash under the bed would be a dead giveaway that something’s amiss.
In the bust authorities seized two Mercedes-Benzes, one BMW, $14,000 in cash, 11 pounds of marijuana, and a quantity of crack.
During the investigation – which began in March of this year – undercover detectives bought nine pounds of marijuana, 180 oxycodone pills and undisclosed amounts of heroine, Percocet and crack.
The grade schooler’s neighbourhood is a known area for gang and drug related activity.
