New Harry Potter Details – EW Reveals Where “Deathly Hallows” Will be Split For Films

By Bridget Tyler on August 19th, 2010

News has been out for quite some time that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” would be split into two movies – which has left fans everywhere with one burning question.  How?

Though the final novel of the “Harry Potter” series does have two distinct parts – Harry’s journey with Ron and Hermione to find the rest of the Horicruxes that keep the evil Voldemort invincible, and the battle at Hogwarts that decides Harry’s fate.  But the many twists and turns of the 759 page book have left many, including myself, wondering how director David Yates would ever figure out how to break the story up into two cohesive, satisfying parts.

Now we have an answer.  In a recent article in “Entertainment Weekly” it was revealed that the split will happen at Chapter 24, when Voldemort takes the Elder Wand from Dumbeldore’s tomb.  The wand is one of the titular Deathly Hallows – a magical item that can be used to battle death.  The split is far from even, occurring about two thirds of the way through the novel.

Yates chose to break the movie there in order to create two distinctly different films. He told EW, “I didn’t want the two films to feel similar in tone.” He describes the first part as “quite verite, quite real,” while the second is “much more operatic and colorful and fantasy-oriented.”  The first film will be something of a road movie, while the second will be an action packed spectacle. In a behind-the-scenes video, Daniel Radcliffe describes “Part II” as “relentless… it’s a really, really fast ride. It’s going to be so much action, so much fighting, but in a good, epic way.”

We can’t wait!
