What to Expect in your First Trimester |Holy Sh$t, You’re Pregnant! Guide

By Tiffany on August 24th, 2010

What happens in the first trimester?

First Month

At this point your baby is smaller than a munchkin donut at Dunkin Donuts. But unlike a delicious donut, he or she’s heart beat has started, and its arms and legs begin to appear along with its digestive system.

Second Month

In the second month, your baby’s face is forming, ears start to develop, spine stats to form as well as arms & legs and some organs began their development. Your nausea has started full force – if it hasn’t already you maybe getting flashbacks to the good ole’ acne days of high school as well. If you didn’t have acne in high school – well then, karma’s a bitch.

Third Month

Facial features start to form in your baby, teeth buds and internal organs. Now your baby will start to swallow amniotic fluid and start to move around either by turning its head or sucking.

What this means for you?

Time for the Doctor

At this point you should be getting your slightly bigger behind to a doctor for your first prenatal visit. They’ll give you some prenatal vitamins to help you along the way – folic acid and calcium are really important at this point to keeping your baby growing and healthy and prevent any defects.

Your Girls are Getting Bigger! (And your Clothes are Getting Tighter)

As for you little lady, you’re going through some changes. For one your breasts are getting bigger or as Vicki Iovine of “The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy”:

“For those of you who are having your first child, the general rule is that, for the first trimester, you get to be you, only with bigger breasts”

Not so bad right? Well.. You will be feeling mighty bloated during this time but you can wear your normal clothes. Just keep in mind that you might be undoing the top button of your pants to give yourself more space. If you’re preggers over the summer, you can expect more water retention and bloating due to the heat. (Regretting the hot & steamy night last winter? I feel for you.)

Your Turn!
