The New York State Agriculture Commissioner has alerted consumers that Midland Farms is voluntarily recalling certain milk products due to the potential of improper pasteurization.
The pasteurization process in very important in making milk safe to drink, as it heats the milk to effectively eliminate all pathogenic bacteria, like Listeria and Salmonella.
All of the recalled milk products are sold in plastic containers, and are marketed under the brand names, Midland Farms, Corrado’s Market, Jersey Dairy Farms and Trade Fair Premium. All possess the plant code, 36-1661 and were sold in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Rhode Island.
Visit the FDA Website for a complete list of the milk products affected in the recall.
Milk inspectors detected a failure of pasteurization at the Menands, New Jersey milk plant. So far, the recalled products have not been found to be contaminated, yet the company is recalling their products as a precautionary measure.
If you have purchased any of the recalled products, return them to the place of purchase, or discard them. Midland Farms warns consumers against using or drinking the recalled milk products, even if they do not appear to be spoiled.
