Mario Lopez Welcomes New Daughter

Former “Saved by the Bell” star and current host of “Extra” Mario Lopez is a first time daddy.  Lopez’s girlfriend, Courtney Mazza, gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday in Burbank, California.  The couple named their first born Gia Francesca Lopez.

“We are so overjoyed. What an amazing, wonderful and overwhelming experience to welcome our daughter into the world,” Lopez told Extra after his daughter was born.

Lopez, 36, met Mazza, 28 while the two were costarring in “A Chorus Line” on Broadway in 2008.  Mazza is a stage actress.

The couple waited until the baby was born to learn it’s sex.

“Where else in life do you get such special surprises?” Lopez told Us Weekly. “I hope with all our kids it will be a surprise.”

Lopez also hopes that there will be a lot of kids, or at least that’s what he tells Us.

“As many as she’ll give me,” he says. “At least three!”

Lopez has written a book for first time dads, which will be out next year.  The couple will also star in a new parenting oriented reality show for VH1.  The show has been shooting for several weeks, but is still untitled.  Lopez quipped in a recent tweet: ”They want to call the VH1 show “Mario Lopez: Saved by the Baby”. Makes me laugh when I say it out loud which is good since the show’s funny.”

All the best to little Gia and her parents – hopefully they’ll take some time to enjoying parenting off camera, as well as in the limelight.
