Jackie Evancho Lip Synching the Reason for America’s Got Talent Loss?

By AAyles on September 16th, 2010

Jackie Evancho, the incredibly adorable and equally talented 10-year-old singer, was a favorite to win America’s Got Talent since the beginning of this season. A few months and many controversial headlines later and Ms. Evancho is the runner-up who lost the million dollar prize to singer Michael Grimm.

The reason for Jackie’s loss will never be known 100 percent. Was she less talented than Michael? Did fans feel like she was too young to win the million dollar prize? Or did voters succumb to the negative press Jackie received after some fans questioned the legitimacy of her talent?

Over the past few months, Jackie has been under fire for supposedly lip synching her performances. I wrote a post on the issue where Kidglue readers gave their personal and professional opinions on whether Jackie was a legitimate talent.

While many jumped to the young girl’s defense, others bashed her in the media and made her out to be a liar. These negative headlines and seemingly fabricated stories could have lost Jackie Evancho 1 million dollars.

After the winner was revealed, many expressed their outrage over Jackie’s loss. So, we have to ask: Did Jackie deserve to win this season – and how much of an impact do you think the lip-synching controversy have on her loss?

Here’s a video of Jackie in action:

  • Alena

True or not, the stories about her lip syncing definitely had an impact on her loss!

  • zach

Jackie deserved to win!! Michael was great… but Jackie was AWSOME! Jackie was even better than her idol,Sarah Brightman. She deserved to win, but unfortunately America voted differently.

  • Erin

Jackie’s prize is not in this dimension!

  • riza

    Agreed with zach… :(

  • Quirk

To lip sync on AGT, you have to collaborate with the crew and set it up with the show. The judges would have known and wouldn’t have praised her so much. America is a bunch of idiots. THINK.

  • Will

Jackie won hands down. We will know the truth shortly.

  • Kevin Smith

I suppose Jackie lip synced at the Pittsburgh Pirates home opener this year, in front of 40,000 fans and a military color guard? She’s the real deal, look at the youtube clip at the baseball game. It’s all the proof anyone needs.

Seriously? I think you’re the only “media” still trying to convince yourself that there ever was any “lip synching” going on….everyone else saw that nonsense for what it was and moved on a long time ago. Sorry, but no – you didn’t cause Jackie to finish in second place, hard as you tried. America didn’t vote for Jackie because AGT misled everyone into thinking that part of the prize was a long-running solo show in Vegas….when all Vegas has to do with the prize is being one stop on the AGT tour, which the winner headlines. America was too dumb to figure that out. I’m glad it’s over, so we don’t have to hear anything more from simpletons like you.

What ever the reason was for her second place finish, she was amazing and I believe that in the final shakedown she will be the ultimate winner. In terms of natural talent she totally eclipsed Sarah Brightman and that her “loss” may very will be the start of a very brilliant career. Way to go Jackie

  • Wilma Haukom

Lip synking? Rediculous! Iwas a singer at 11 years and beyond for years. I would certainly know if she were doing that. Give her credit for her God given talent that she is developing beautifully.

  • OkieDave

Jackie is certainly the real deal, but Michael has broader appeal. Let’s face it, fewer people like opera. And about the million dollar prize. Look at the disclaimer at the end of the show. It states that the winner will receive the amount over a period of 40 YEARS. That’s $25,000 per year less taxes. He’ll be 70 when he receives the last of it. Not enough to buy your grandparents much of a house. Remember, Susan Boyle came in second in BGT and who has heard of the first place winner since? Jackie will go far. She’s only 10 and with the grace and poise of an adult. You could see the look on her face when her ‘idol’ Sarah missed a high note.

  • Jan

She is lip synching, it’s so evident.

  • Mike

Pure talent is what we all saw. A WORLD class act not just a Vegas class act. Shame on all the nay sayers!

  • Joy Marie

Jackie praised Jesus and the blessed Mother in 2 out of 4 songs she sang. It was a risk when she could have sang Dark Waltz from Phantom. Jackie is devine and gifted from God, he has bigger plans for her. The Lord doesn’t bring his children this far to set them back, never. Jackie is a child that obviously loves Jesus and will be richly rewarded.

  • Ed

I suppose “Jan” who must be an expert on lip synching will
accuse her of doing it at Carnegie Hall, or when she appeared with David Foster, and EVERYONE on AGT: contestants, crew, judges and their families were all in on it…….get a life.

  • AJ

If you watch Pie Jesu, September 7, 2010 performance, you will see on the last note that she closes her mouth before her voice ends… If she didn’t lip sync that performance, then perhaps it was pre-recorded.

  • Rob

If I’m correct it’s the American people who picked the winner not the judges. I would have never believed that there could be such blind and incompetent judgment of talent by the American people who made this decision. This decision is a disgrace to America’s Got Talent and a wake up call to talented performers at a national level and around the would who witnessed this unfair decision. It is now clear that the American people have no idea what true talent is and that America’s Got Talent needs to let the judges pick the winners or come up with some other means of adjudication so that a disaster like this will never happen again. As the ‘Ave Maria’ sang flawlessly through Jackie’s’ lips opposed to ‘When a Man Loves A Women ‘ the decision should not even have been close. This was a “no brainer” and the American people rewarded this Godly blessed talented girl with a major fumble. I pray she is too young to realize the magnitude of this incompetent decision. Imagine a 10 year old opera singer holding her own with Sarah Brightman, one of the greatest opera singers in the world. I was so shocked at this incompetent decision, I wonder if America’s Got Talent could see this was a major tragedy or are they as blind as the people. I concluded two things from watching this disgrace, first – If America’s Got Talent want to continue being a top viewer production they better take the judgment of talent out of the hands of the people and second – from this terrible decision by the people, I will never watch America’s Got Talent again.

  • Dee

Jackie hardly sings flawlessly. She is taught to Imitate Operatic tones. She is even imitating classical crossover. She is creating the right sound but the overall quality of her voice is less than good.

  • Barry

RIGHT DEE and youve been taught to bash anyone with talent in order to make your self feel less small ahh!!!

  • Cosmo

Lip Sync! Period. End of story morons. You got duped idiots.

  • Blu

In regards to AJ’s comment: If you hear the last word she sings it ends in the letter “M”. Requiem! Say the letter M. It starts with the mouth open and then ends with you mouth closed with the final tone being nasal. I’ve been in the music business all my life. There was no lip sync.

  • Tunanorth

    Well, it’s now Dec. 1.
All the doubters have been proven to be idiots.
Jackie has appeared on Leno, Oprah, Today, David Foster, Martha Stewart, and Rockefeller Center, blowing everybody away.
Next week she’ll sing at the White House while the president lights the tree.
The doubters are back under their rocks, dining on insects.

  • Lynn

She is both singing and lip-syncing at the same time.  Her breathing is true to form, but there is another audio track playing while she is “singing”.  Hate to say it.  She’s cute as can be, but there is some type of deception involved–my guess is that Dad is behind it.
