Michael Grimm vs. Jackie Evancho: Who Deserved to Win America’s Got Talent?

By AAyles on September 16th, 2010

The finale of the popular show America’s Got Talent aired last night and many fans are disappointed with the outcome.

The final four contestants consisted of Prince Poppycock, Jackie Evancho, Fighting Gravity and Michael Grimm. Each of the finalist performed in hopes of winning the coveted title of America’s Got Talent Winner but only one could come out on top.

So who took home the whopping 1 million dollar prize?

That would be Michael Grimm who not only took home the money but also won the chance to headline a show in Las Vegas.

Runner-up Jackie Evancho – a huge favorite to win this season – politely hugged the season winner and told host Nick Cannon that “this experience has been amazing” and “I just really hope I’ll be able to sing for you guys again.”

Jackie, the amazing 10-year-old singer, faced a great deal of scrutiny this year as many fans believed she was lip syncing her songs. Undoubtedly, that probably had something to do with her loss last night despite the fact that she and the show insist her singing was 100 percent real.

After watching the show last night, who do you think has more talent – Michael Grimm or Jackie Evancho?

  • Jennifer

Michael won because He should have WON! America loves his MUSIC, Voice, Song Choices!! Jackie is good, we love her too, but could you actually watch her sing for more than a couple of songs in a row? I could listen to Michael Grimm all day and night! When he sings, it is coming from his soul!

  • lis

He is real joke maybe cause jackie love chirstian song and they put freak queer popycock should be go to gaybar in castro

  • Quirk

Jackie’s singing is pure talent. It is beautiful in a way that America apparently can’t appreciate. Talent-wise, Jackie is fifty times as talented as Grim. Grim’s singing is flawed, which is what makes up his style (all “styles” are just a different bunch of flaws in singing… not always bad, but less talent). Jackie’s singing is pure. It is perfect. You can’t sing better than she does. She’s the most talented singer in the world and she’s 10. Grim beating her is a huge injustice. Shame on you, America. You’ve Got Talent, but you sure don’t know it when you see it.

  • Quirk

Lis, you are pathetic. Get out, trash.

  • gigi

Did anybody realize that Michel Grimm had a bunch of cd’s out…since last year. I thought America’s got talent was for those who were wanting to show new talent and fresh talent. Was michael grimm just using his grandparents for a sob story. Jackie has fresh new talent and she will go far to please the public more than Mr. Grimm…Jackie is the real winner.

If people cannot tell the miles of difference between the skill level of Jackie and of Michael Grimm, then there’s no use discussing it. Michael Grimm has a great voice and style for sure, but a generational talent? I don’t think so. I look forward to Jackie’s 1st professionally produced album. If you close your eyes and forget she’s 10 years old, you can’t help but remark how beautiful her voice is. I know, the label ‘angelic’ is often overused, but in Jackie’s case it does describe her voice.

  • Ellie

Lip sync my ass, some people would not recognize true talent even if it bit them on the backside.
Jackie is a wonderful performer, and did deserve to win.
Not to take anything away from Micheal Grim, but their talents are miles apart
Well done Jackie you are a winner in my eyes, and I will be buying your first release

  • DELMA

    JACKIE IS THE WINNER

  • Alan

Pierre had it right when he said Jackie was a super star and that ranks a bit above a star in my book. Michael Grimm had his mind set that she was going too win, well Michael your right she should have.

  • Eileen

Keep in mind, that the winner is to be a Las Vegas headliner.
I don’t think a child (even with talent) could maintain that.

  • Barry

In the long run both have won. He could be mature enough to handle a stint in vegas. As Sarah Brightman said ” Save Your Voice”,with proper guidance she will be truely a super star!In this case fate is saving the best for last

  • A L

    Congratulation M Grimm!!!!

  • seirra

winning a show is not just about having an unusual act or unique voice.theres more than that.michael sings with his soul, you feel it,hes got sexiness in his voice and performances,he’got charisma, star quality, humilty, this qualities wins the heart of audience.most big stars doesnt have 100% talent but they make it big because audience feel inlove with them most of all for their personalities.you dont need to belt out high notes to be star, for michael grimm,he sings a song suited to his voice with soul and that makes him great singer.

  • Simmy

Michael was (Tuesday nite “When A Man Loves A Woman”) and IS the talent with the most genuine emotion & fantastic delivery when he sings. To me, no contest…the obvious choice. Who won? The WINNER WON! MICHAEL GRIMM! All the best of luck, Michael, for out-of-this-world future success!!!

  • ScottSA

Once in a while a star comes along who without any question outshines everyone else. Jackie Evancho is one such, and it’s a shame she lost to just another pop singer.

  • Douglas L

Both deserved to win but for differing reasons. Jackie clearly has the most pure talent. Michael has been toiling while singing professionally already. He has a great style and a voice to fit that style. He will be successful. BUT if this is a pure talent contest, then Jackie clearly has the edge. I think she lost because of the Las Vegas angle, people’s fears (rightly so) of her overexposing and overusing her voice were she to win, Michael’s sob story, and the fact that people understood that this was Michael’s one shot (giving him the sympathy vote) whereas Jackie is young and will be wildly successful if her voice is preserved. If Michale were not to win, it isn’t clear how much we would hear from him again or how much money he would make (giving him the “he needs the money” vote, too)–what’s become of last year’s winner?.. good voting following but not that much pure talent .. talent being “Holy Crap!” factor on it’s witness.

a last comment for the “vindictives”… Jackie seems pretty well grounded. I doubt she even has a true concept of what a million dollars is and she and Michael apparently developed a close bond during the competition. She and her family seemed quite ready to help out his family. Jackie has what is important when she returns to her “other life”.. namely a family who is stable and loves her, friends, her pets, a nice home and a chance to just “be a kid” before America demands she acquiesce to the appetite for celebrity that we do to our young talents (we display them for our own entertainment, use them up, then move on to the next). Let her enjoy her life before she becomes an adult. Look at what has happened to young sports stars and young talent like Michael Jackson .. who spent the rest of his life seeking to fill the void of a missed childhood!!

  • V

Jackie was the winner all the way!!! I mean it’s a talent show in search for the best talent in the competition. Fluck the Vegas show. I do think the grandparents thing was the sob story that won over America. It almost looked like Grim was even feeling a little grim and a bit embarrassed they kept bringing it up!! Jackie You Rule GIrl!!!

  • Dennis

about Jennifer’s comment (as most ignorant Americans:)

How can you say that you could not listen to more than 2 songs of Jackies in a row! Go back and resume watching news about Paris in your TRAILER! This show was about TALENT! You cannot compare Jackie to Grimm, Jackie is 10 times more talented. She is a prodigy.

Some people are too stupid to put aside the fact that OPERA is not their cup of tea, and to think of just what they are hearing.

  • RonH

Actually, Jackie’s 2nd place finish was a blessing. It allowed AGT to save face and have her appear in only 10 of their 25 AGT tour shows. Her parents wanted other things for her including school. The schedule would have been way to grueling for a 10 year old. In the meantime, Jackie was able to finish her Christmas CD, sign a contract with Syco/Columbia, schedule appearances with David Foster and Oprah Winfrey and sing in Pittsburgh’s Macy’s Day Christmas parade. Can you imagine trying to do that and appear in the AGT tour shows ? Her Christmas CD has already climbed into the top 20 albums on Amazon.com within 24 hours of its listing on Amazon.com and with no advertising or media coverage. Now, that’s a superstar.

Jackie Evancho is a great singer, as great well seasoned veteran, is the youngest singer to be on the Billboard 200 and also has performed twiss on Ophra and has a new album coming out on June 3, which she sings two duets, one with Susan Boyle and Barbaraa Stiesand. Jackie Evancho will be a great singer who will have a long career and Michael Grimm, couldn’t  hold a candle to Jackie Evancho. He won A.G.T. but the next few years, he will be forgotten. When Ophra had her final shows on regular television, Jackie Evancho Enancho and Josh Groban, both sang on her last show. She’s also sung on the Oscars program because she’s the real deal. I think her voice will change a little when she gets older but will sing like an Angel. Yes, I’m a big fan of hers. Not many female singers can be compared to Barbara Striesand as on her new album, she sings with her in a duet. That’s quite an occomplishment for Jackie and not many singers have the privilage of singing with Ms. Striesand.
