As stars of their own reality show, Giuliana & Bill, Bill and Giuliana Rancic are used to being open about their personal lives. So it was no surprise that when the couple decided to undergo IVF treatments to try and start a family, they happily shared their news with fans.
Their struggles to conceive have been well documented on their reality show, but their appearance today on The View deals with a more difficult experience: Giuliana’s miscarriage at 9 weeks.
“It’s hard to talk about. This is actually the first time we are talking about this, because nobody knew we were pregnant. And it was really scary,” Giuliana told The View host Barbara Walters.“I couldn’t believe it. Our pregnancy was going beautifully.”
Earlier Bill told PEOPLE, “Both of us were in shock. Failure wasn’t an option!”
Both Bill and Giuliana said they are speaking out about their experience because they don’t think there should be any stigma surrounding a miscarriage. “Hopefully we can help people understand that there’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Giuliana said. “It’s such a taboo subject, but it’s a very common problem.”
The painful setback is also not going to stop Bill and Giuliana from having the family they dream about. “We are really looking at all of our options,” Giuliana told the ladies of The View. “I mean, listen, whether it’s IVF or whatever it is, we want to have a baby and we will have a baby.”
