“I could definitely write an eighth, a ninth book,” J.K. Rowling told Oprah, in an interview which aired Friday. “I think I am done, but you never know.”
Oprah questioned Rowling about the hugely popular Harry Potter series in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the author revealed how the death of her mother twenty years ago left her in a pool of grief and inspiration.
“The books wouldn’t be what they are if she hadn’t died,” Rowling said. “I mean, her death is literally on every other page in the ‘Harry Potter books.”
In the interview, J.K. Rowling also revealed that she turned down Michael Jackson and his request to turn the Harry Potter films into a musical.
“Michael Jackson wanted to do a musical,” the author explained. “I said no to a lot of things. For me, I love the films, I love the books, and there’s elements that I love around it… like the theme park. But I only wanted to do it because I knew it would be incredible.”
And, like most of us, Rowling cried when she finished the seventh (and hopefully not last!) Harry Potter novel, The Deathly Hallows. “It was a bereavement, it was huge. Initially I was elated, then I cried like I had never cried before.”
Hey, at least we’ve still got two movies to look forward to – 46 days to go!
