The 9-year old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith has released her first music video, Whip My Hair. The video is colorful, fun, and thankfully age appropriate for the child singer, though she sounds well beyond her years in the song, which is nearly impossible to get out of your head. Trust me, I’ve tried.
Leading up to the music video’s debut, Willow appeared on Ryan Seacrest’s KISS FM breakfast show, and explained the meaning behind the song [via The Daily Mail].
“It means just be an individual,” she said. “Like, you can’t be afraid of yourself. You have to be yourself and you can’t let anyone tell you that it’s wrong!”
Whip My Hair is the first single of Willow’s upcoming album, which will be released by Jay-Z’s record label, Roc-A-Fella records. The young star has already earned big praise from the rap mogul.
“I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year old and I was like, man that record’s a smash. I believe in superstars. I believe in big records and in superstars and I think [Willow] has both.”
