Willow Smith’s debut single, Whip My Hair, has logged almost five million You Tube views in less than a week. Signed with Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella records, there is little doubt that this spunky nine-year old is well on her way to superstardom.
Whip My Hair’s director, Ray Kay told US Weekly, “She’s a trendsetter and I’m sure others will be copying her style soon.”
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Willow admits that she was really into tights and dresses but her style changed when she turned nine. “My mom helps me pick out my clothes,” she said, “but my brother [Jaden] always says, ‘Willow, sag your pants!’”
Willow describes her personal style as “school girl meets punk rock” and cites Billy Idol among her fashion icons. As for designers, she loves Dolce & Gabbana.
Through her music, Willow encourages fans to be themselves, telling Ryan Seacrest [via The Daily Mail] that the meaning behind Whip My Hair is, “just to be an individual. Like, you can’t be afraid of yourself.”
