The real life love story behind your teenager’s favorite T.V. junk food, “Gossip Girl,” is over. Penn Badgely, who plays Dan Humphrey on the show, and his girlfriend of three years, Blake Lively, who play Serena Van Der Woodsen, have split. According to their reps, the relationship ended in mid September.
The pair have kept the split drama free, in much the same way they have reportedly stayed low key and professional through out their relationship.
“They’re professionals,” an insider tells Us Weekly. “They’re still good friends and hang out on the set.”
The source tells Us that they, “kept this news to themselves for a while. Nobody on set had any idea,” the insider told Us. “They’re really just private.”
In previous interviews, Lively has revealed that it wasn’t the on screen action that sparked their romance. It was Badgely’s dance moves:
“Penn does these silly dance moves, and he’s very witty and quick, so it’s fun to have sharp banter with him.” She gushed in a 2008 interview.
Both actors, now 23, are taking their “Gossip Girl” fame to the big screen, though Lively’s star is rising faster with a stand out supporting role in Ben Affleck’s “The Towne” and her upcoming staring turn in “Green Lantern” opposite Ryan Reynolds. But Badgley isn’t far behind with his recent turn in the hit, “Easy A.”
