The World Series, Sprint Cup Chase and Sports Memories in the Making: Nov. 1 – 7

By Jeremy Suede on November 1st, 2010

You can say good bye to baseball because by the end of this week we will have crowned a new champion and the season will be officially over.  It was a great year filled many memorable moments and plenty of historic pitching moments.  From the perfect games to the no-hitters, this was definitely the year of the pitcher.  Will the hitters have caught up by next year or will we see a couple more years like this?  Something to ponder during the long cold off-season.  Thank you baseball for another season!

Brett Favre is done.  Even if he comes back after the vicious hit on Sunday, he will never return to the glory he once had.  We may see a flash of it only because he is a stubborn old man who won’t stop playing until he is physically unable to.  So consider the Vikings’ chances of a Super Bowl season slim-to-none.  Same goes for the Cowboys.  Poor Tony Romo was upright and mobile one second and then one rookie misses a block and Romo is on the ground writhing in pain from a broken collar bone.  Just goes to show you that on any given Sunday anything could happen in the NFL.

Enjoy this final week of baseball!

Top Games To Watch

1.  MLB – 2010 World Series – Texas Rangers vs. San Francisco Giants – Nov. 1 & Nov. 3 & 4 if necessary – Giants lead series 3-1

The Giants are poised to bring the first ever World Series Title to San Francisco after being there for 50 years.  The Rangers are in a deep 3-1 hole and will have to win the next three games for them to be champions.  While that isn’t impossible, it is very improbable.  But it does make for some very good sports drama.  The Rangers must fight with everything they have to stay alive and play as if there is no tomorrow because if they lose there is no tomorrow.  Watch these games to either see a monumental comeback by the Rangers or to see the joy in the Giants players as the win their first championship for the city.  Cliff Lee will take the mound for the do-or-die Game 5,  will he be able to redeem himself after giving up so much in his first outting?  He’ll be going up against Tim Lincecumwho pitched marvelously in Game 1, will he be able to keep that top form?  You’ll have to watch to see and I promise these games will be worth watching.

2. NASCAR – AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway – Nov. 7 @ 3 p.m.

Once again Jimmie Johnson has not won a race yet extended his lead (albeit a slim extension) in the Sprint Cup Chase.  Clint Bowyer may have won the race at Talladegabut Jimmie made the right moves to keep ahead of the other drivers still in contention for the Sprint Cup.  With only three more races left for anyone else to do anything about it, Jimmie seems poised to become the greatest driver of all time.  He will earn his 5thconsecutive championship and solidify his pure domination of the sport.  But this gives the other drivers just as much motivation to take down the top dog.  With drivers like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon in the bunch, winning two of the next three races  isn’t out of the question.  Denny Hamlin is just 14 points behind but if Jimmie can keep him in his rear view mirror he should be fine.  Watch to see if any of the other top drivers can step up or if this is the race Jimmie just decides to end all speculation by taking the checkered flag and running away with the points.

3.  NHL – Tampa Bay Lightning at Los Angeles Kings – Nov. 4 @ 10:30 pm

It’s early in the season and I don’t know enough about hockey to make an extremely educated guess but I do know that each of these teams are in first place of their respective divisions and each team has something to prove to their critics.  The Kings are very young and expected to do well but because of their age they will falter during crunch time.  That’s not to say they aren’t good because in fact their youth is full of talent but their inexperience will come back to bite them.  The Lightning are an older team with not a lot of star power and not expected to be in this position at the top.  I can assure you that they have no intention of giving up that spot without a fight and with only 3 points separating first from third, every win matters.  Which team has more desire and more intensity to take down another top team.  Not only does the winner stay where they are but they get the satisfaction and motivation from beating a first place team.  Watch to see who wants it more.

Things To Keep An Eye On

  • The Miami Heat may have stumbled out of the gate but since then they have looked nothing short of fantastic.  They have dominated their opponents and will only get better in the coming months.  Once that team gels and becomes a cohesive unit, they could be unstoppable. I don’t think it will happen this season but other teams should take notice because the next five years will be dominated by the Heat.  But you never know, maybe they can.
  • Check out the entire NHL schedule here.  I can’t recommend enough trying to get out to see one of these games live.  A good time will be had by all.
