Your local dentist may soon be asking for your kids Halloween candy in an effort to not only keep kids from eating it themselves but to brighten up our troops around the world. Your local dentist is being encouraged to join the Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program, organized by Operation Gratitude, where they will purchase your kids Halloween candy for $1 a pound. They will then ship this candy off to our troops to give them a little treat while they are fighting for us. Last year they received more than 60 tons of candy and this year they expect that number to increase.
This is great program for parents who like to see their kids enjoy the Halloween festivities but dread them eating all that candy for the next few weeks and then being left with all the unwanted candy for months. Now they can be rewarded monetarily for their efforts as well as experience some charity work by seeing their candy go off to people who really deserve it more. Dentists are being encouraged to have plenty of activities and goodies (healthy) to give away to the little contributors.
To me this seems like a win-win program for everyone. Kids are encouraged to be healthy and charitable. I would even encourage them to then donate their new money back to the program and to the troops. But even if they just send their candy that is more than many people do to help our troops. Great program that I hope many people participate in.
For more information please go to their webpage and also get your local dentist to register and participate in the program. There is plenty of information available at the site.
