Graeme Taylor Speaks Out on Gay Bullying – Vote him on Ellen!

By AAyles on November 15th, 2010

Graeme Taylor, an openly gay 14-year-old student from Howell, Michigan, is standing up to educational professionals in his high school where a teacher was suspended after disciplining a student who was making anti-gay comments.

Graeme gave an eye-opening speech to the board of directors, urging them to reconsider their decision. He politely pointed out that the town’s reputation will be destroyed if they continue to support anti-gay bullying. He also revealed that he tried to kill himself when he was 9 because of the harassment he experienced from other students because he was gay.

This boy not only understands the importance of supporting the gay community (or any community, for that matter) but he also has a unique ability to convey a message in a professional yet hard-hitting way that makes people really think about what’s going on.

There’s no doubt in my mind that this young boy needs to make a living publicly speaking to students and teachers all over North America (and the rest of the world) about the effects of bullying.

For this reason, I urge you to leave your comments below in support of Graeme appearing on the Ellen Degeneres show.

If she knows about this boy, she will undoubtedly want to promote the message he’s trying to send.

Leave your comments below and help Graeme help the world!

Here’s the video of Taylor’s speech:

This boy has more guts than most adults! He needs to be on Ellen for sure, if I had an address I would write him! I am so proud of him for speaking out.

Absolutely. Put him on Ellen, and put the school board on the street (kick them out). What in the world would possess a school to discipline a teacher for stopping bullying? What is wrong with these people?

I sent a suggestion on Ellen’s site the other day. I believe he would be a great asset to her show. He is a true hero. We all hear of teachers who have become heroes for their students, but this is a student who became a hero for his teacher. So inspiring! Put him on Ellen!
