The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is a holiday tradition that is celebrating it’s 84th year entertaining families on Thanksgiving morning. The classic balloon characters we all know and love will be joined by some fresh faces this year that are sure to make younger viewers in particular even more excited for the parade.
New character balloons from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a popular book series and film, and Kung Fu Panda, an animated hit with a sequel coming up this next year, will join the parade. There will also be several new floats, including a Dora the Explorer float, entitled Dora’s Christmas Carol and Mount Rushmore’s American Pride and a Top Hat float.
The Wimpy Kid balloon will be a giant version of Greg Heffley, the fictional middle schooler whose musings have made the illustrated novels by Jeff Kinney so popular. Of course, Panda’s balloon representative will be Po, the titular panda who knows Kung Fu, voiced by Jack Black in the DreamWorks Animation hit. They will join classic children’s literary characters like The Cat in the Hat, Curious George, Clifford and Arthur.
Po the panda also has his own 3D holiday TV special coming this year on November 24th.
The new balloons will join the classics, and last years newbies, Spiderman, the Pillsbury Doughboy, Sailor Mickey and Ronald McDonald.
