Nicole Richie Restraining Order: Should it be Illegal to Photograph Celebrity Kids?

By AAyles on November 29th, 2010

Nicole Richie, Daughter HarlowNicole Richie is the latest celeb mom to take action against photographers who cross the line when it comes to snapping pics of young children.

Nicole may be taking the stand Wednesday in a hearing scheduled to help secure a temporary restraining order against one particular paparazzo who Richie feels is getting too close her daughter Harlow.

According to Nicole, the photographer will stand outside Harlow’s nursery school in hopes of securing a pic of the celeb tot but the lurking has become a definite concern for Nicole, Joel and other parents of children who attend the school.

A source had the following to say about the situation:

“Nicole’s attorneys will put on the stand several preschool teachers from Harlow’s school that have witnessed this photographer crossing the line trying to get pictures. Nicole is fiercly protective of her children, and won’t tolerate this. Nicole could testify also.”

Nicole is not the first mom to fight back against paparazzi taking shots of her children. In February of 2008, Kate Hudson called for a law against paparazzi photographing celebrity kids after her son, Ryder, was snapped constantly.

At the time, she said “It’s aggressive, it’s bizarre and it makes him [Ryder] self-conscious. And kids should always be kids, they should never be self-conscious of what they’re doing.”

Couldn’t agree more, Kate.

Do you think it should be illegal for paparazzi to photograph celebrity kids?

Of course it should be illegal! It should be illegal for them to hound and photograph the parent, too. making money from taking pictures of people without their permission should not be allowed.

We have the expectation that we can go about our day without being followed, monitored, or recorded. Should people who make a living by being known to a few more people be treated worse than the average person? Should they have lower expectations about having a normal life? i don’t think so.

Why don’t all the good moms get together and make paparazzi 100% illegal? It’s really appalling to think people can get away with this kind of disgusting work. Makes me wonder if some celebs are batty enough to like it or think they actually need it. When someone is honest enough in her life and work to understand it’s a travesty and should be stopped, it will be stopped. As long as no one cares enough or crazy fame seekers want it, it will be here and do much harm. There is a choice. Good luck to the one who chooses right.
