If you ever wondered where Mariah Carey got her soaring voice, you don’t have to wonder any more. She comes by it honestly, as her new duet with her mother, Patricia, reveals. Patricia is a former opera singer turned vocal coach, and she can more than keep up with her famous daughter when it comes to belting out seemingly un-hittable notes. The duo’s duet of Oh Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus has some shrill moments, but mostly it’s a fun peak into the Carey family’s history (family photographs and videos are scattered through the video).
The family style duet will appear on Mariah’s new album,Merry Christmas II You. “We discussed doing a duet and I really wanted to make sure it happened on this Christmas album,” Mariah really told the press. “So I feel really blessed to be able to have this opportunity to have this on record forever–a song with my mom. She’s the one who really got me into being so festive at Christmas.”
