If you’ve been using Facebook this week, there’s a good chance that you’ve noticed that pictures of your friends have been replaced with popular cartoon characters. No, your BFF hasn’t suddenly developed a striking resemblance to Strawberry Shortcake – but she is supporting a good cause.
Facebook users have been encouraged to replace their current profile picture with that of their favorite cartoon characters. Why? To support awareness about violence against children.
“Change your Facebook profile picture to a cartoon character from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Monday, December 6, there should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories! This is a campaign against violence on children,” a post for the promotion reads.
Bobby’s World, Doug, Recess, Strawberry Shortcake, Rugrats and Muppet Babies have all popped up on the site as popular choices.
Other classics – and a few of my person favorites– Shera Princess of Power, He-Man, JEM and the Holograms, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Smurfs and Animaniacs.
Have you changed your Facebook profile picture yet?
