In case you were wondering, no, you’re not the only parent in the world who uses cell phone privileges to regulate teen behavior. Next time your kids are grouching because you’ve taken their phone away, you can tell them you’re just trying to help them be more like Justin Bieber.
Bieber has been in the spotlight since Scooter Braun stumbled on one of his YouTube videos while searching for a different singer. The then thirteen year old signed a recording deal with Braun and Usher and quickly became a sensation. But, being a music mega-star does not save you from maternal cell phone confiscation. Bieber’s mother, Patti, is touring with him right now. And she’s keeping him on the straight and narrow.
Bieber told U.K. DJ Fearne Cotton while on tour in London: “I think every parent and son argue but I love my mom, she’s awesome. I think that it’s good that she travels with me (but) sometimes I need a break because she’s with me 24/7.
“The other day she canceled my phone plan. We just got into an argument about something stupid and then she was like, ‘Give me your phone!’ And I was like no, so then she went and canceled it! Tough!”
It’s nice to know that getting two Grammy nominations (which Bieber did recently) doesn’t make a teenager any less of a teenager – or a mom any less of a mom.
