Anne Hathaway Surprises PS22 Chorus with Oscar Invite (Watch!)

By Heather B on December 17th, 2010

The kids from the famous PS22 Chorus got the surprise of their lives Thursday, when actress Anne Hathaway stopped by their Staten Island public school to invite them to perform at the 2011 Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Needless to say, the kids are excited.  Very excited.  Watch:

PS22 Chorus director, Greg Brynburg, told the New York Post, “It was emotional mayhem. It was wonderful. It was chaos, but the most wonderful kind you could imagine. They just barreled into me and hugged me… It was one of the most gratifying moments in my career.”

Choir member Sarah Viega, 10, said she couldn’t believe the news either.  “The moment keeps playing again, and again and again and again and again,” she said.

The entire PS22 Chorus will be flown to Hollywood to perform at the awards show on February 27, 2011.

Principal Melissa Donuff told the paper she was thrilled by the wonderful opportunity for her children.  “I mean, it’s just, it’s unbelievable,” she said.  “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Absolutely fantastic. I am so moved and delighted and wish to thank everyone for all their talent and energy. What a wonderful opportunity for everyone due to hard work and community. This is a perfect example of how working together with a common cause and friendship can move the world to improve the world. The students have achieved so much along with their teacher and I know it will help to change many lives for the better. Parents as well can be very proud of their children who have shown their excitement, worked together and learned the power of music as a powerful mode of artistic expression. It’s a great contribution to the world.
