Queen Elizabeth II, 84, head of the English royal family, added great-grandma to her long list of titles this week. Her grandson, Peter Phillips, and his wife Autumn, have a new baby girl. Autumn gave birth on Wednesday.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Autumn’s family have been informed and are delighted with the news. The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course,” a statement issued by Buckingham Place on Thursday.
Peter Phillips is the only son of the Princess Royal, Princess Anne, and her first husband Mark Phillips. Peter was the first of the royal grandchildren to marry. Peter and Autumn caused a mild scandal by selling the rights to their wedding to Hello! magazine for a reported 500,000 pounds ($772,000). The couple lived in Hong Kong, where Peter worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland, until recently. Now they live in London where Peter also works.
The new baby is 12th in line to the throne. She also makes Peter’s sister Zara an aunt. The royal family said last week that Zara, a successful equestrian athlete, was to marry rugby player Mike Tindall.
