The Twilight Saga is a one in a million hit. It’d brought its star, Kristen Stewart, fame and fortune.
“Masses of girls identified with Bella in a really profound way, for want of a better word,” Kristen said in a new interview for the February issue of Vogue, which features her on the cover. “The connection that I’ve seen people have . . . I’ve seen it physically. It’s the characters they’re flipping for.”
Whether its Bella or the awkward but eye catching Stewart that young girls everywhere are fascinated with, being Bella’s real world alter ego is both limiting and powerful for Stewart. Limiting, because of the attention she receives:
“There’s no way to eloquently put this,” she told Vogue. “I just can’t go to the mall. It bothers me that I can’t be outside very often. And also to not ever be just ’some girl’ again. Just being some chick at some place, that’s gone.”
And powerful because, simply put, Bella has made Stewart rich. “Like, funds,” as she put it to Vogue. “Anytime I hear that somebody’s really rich, the first question is ‘Do you do anything with it? Or do you, like, chill? You just sit on it?’” What this particular young star is planning to do with it is put some of the money she’s made to good use. While doing research to potentially play the role of a runaway from the sex trade, she was inspired by the idea of putting some of her new found wealth to work building a network of half way houses for young women in similar situations.
“That would be amazing,” she told Vogue. “Right now it’s the thing I feel most connected to.”
