Singer Jewel and her husband Ty Murray, a nine time world champion rodeo cowboy, have announced that the newest member of their family is going to be a little boy.
“We would have been happy either way, of course, but we are so excited to be having a little boy,” the singer, 36, told People Magazine. Her unborn son is a first child for the couple, who have been trying to get pregnant for nearly two years. Jewel got the good news on her first day as host of Bravo’s upcoming songwriting competition Platinum Hit, which costars formerAmerican Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. Fittingly, the expectant mom is also working on a children’s album
“I have to admit, I was doing a little dance on our way out of the doctor’s office when we found out!” says Murray. The couple have been waiting to redecorate Little Boy Murray’s corner of their 2,200 acre Texas ranch until they knew if he was going to be a boy or a girl.
Ty and Jewel married in 2008 after a ten year courtship that began with a chance encounter at the Denver Rodeo and Stock Show. Jewel was given a ticket to the event by the car service she was using while on tour, which just happened to be one of his sponsors.
“I began a US tour, and we began to talk on the phone frequently until we decided to finally have a first date — about 6 months after we first met,” Jewel told The Boot. “I know the exact moment I fell in love with him. We were sitting by a river in northern California … It wasn’t any one thing he said — it was his whole being. It was his quietness. It was his toughness and strength, but it was the counterpoint of his kindness that set it apart. I knew I would love him. I knew instantly that he would be solid as a rock and someone I could depend on.”
