Carmen Sandiego Facebook – Will Your Kids Play?

By Tiffany on January 27th, 2011

There were few videogames that were considered “educational” enough to be played at school — Carmen Sandiego & Oregon Trail were those games. And if you grew up in the 80s and 90s like me – you were probably playing at least one of them.

Now they’re back — On Facebook!

And while it will be a nostalgic flashback for some twenty-thirty something folks who loved the game in their youth – for some, it will be the first time they have ever even heard of the game. Will your kids be one of them?

For those of you who don’t know – “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” was a 1980s videogame franchise that eventually lead to a television game show for kids. In the game, you’re an ACME detective on a mission to arrest ex – ACME detective and V.I.L.E ringleader Carmen Sandiego. Follow Carmen and her gang around the world, solving crimes and picking up clues to Carmen Sandiego’s whereabouts until you can eventually arrest her.  It’s Nancy Drew meets Geography and a ton of fun!

Oregon Trail was a videogame created in the 1970s that was aimed at teaching kids about life as a pioneer in the 19th century. Basically, it’s Frontierville – before there was a Frontierville. Oh and it’s waaaaay better. In the game, a wagon leader (you) must guide your group of settlers from Independence, Missouri to Willamette Valley, Oregon all the while crossing the Oregon Trail.
