American Tack & Hardware Co. is recalling more than 261,000 LED night lights because they may cause serious fire damage to property as well as bodily injury. AmerTac has received 18 reports of the lights smoking, burning, melting and/or charring as well as 3 reports of property damage and one report of burning injury. The product can short circuit which causes it to overheat and smolder or melt.

There are 3 night light models being recalled: 71193, 71194 and 327879. Only those with KML molded on the back are being recalled. All models have KML, ETL, the AmerTac™ logo and the model number molded on the back of the night lights’ plastic housing. Model number 71193 is a square shaped, white plastic unit with a flat translucent square window on the front and a button for changing the screen color. Model 71194 and 327879 resemble a computer mouse with white plastic housing and inset translucent windows on the front and sides. They were sold in hardware stores and other home improvement stores nationwide from March 2009 through January 2011 for about $7.
Anyone who purchased one of these products should immediately unplug them from the wall and contact AmerTac for more information and refund. AmerTac can be reached at 800-420-7511, their website, or recall website.
