Paul Abdul’s new reality competition show, Live to Dance, has it’s first $500,000 winners – pint sized ballroom act D’Angelo Castro and Amanda Carbajales. D’Angelo is nine, Amanda is ten. Their second runner up, Kendal Glover, is also ten. No, this isn’t a kids talent show, it’s just an amature dance competition that’s clearly being decided by “whose the cutest of them all” standards.
Live to Dance is structured a bit more along the lines of more professional competition shows like So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol but the ages of two thirds of its top three (the third place group was a married ballet dancer couple who refer to themselves as White Tree Fine Art) make the point that this is a much more populous show, aimed at showcasing talented amateurs a la America’s Got Talent or Star Search. But more adorable dancing kids is never a bad thing!
So what are D’Angelo and Amanda going to do with their winnings? Their parents may be dreaming of college funds, but the kids have some much more immediate plans, which D’Angelo shared with the host in the excitement of their win:
“I’m going to go to Disney World!”
