Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” Almost Takes Down Adam Sandler at the Box Office

By Bridget Tyler on February 15th, 2011

For a teenage boy who is almost as famous for his hair as for his singing voice, Justin Bieber is already well on his way to becoming a pop culture icon. Proof of that status shone through this weekend when his concert documentary, Never Say Never, almost beat out Adam Sandler’s latest comic outing, Just Go With It.

Not that Just Go With It is by any means a critical success with its 18% fresh rating from RottenTomatoes.com, but Sandler rarely has any competition at the box office, no matter how poorly reviewed his films might be.  For a concert doc like Never Say Never to come so close that the rankings could still change when final numbers are released this Monday is pretty astounding.  It says something about the Biebs, but it also says something about the commercial power of the teenage girl demographic.  As evidenced by the Twilight phenomenon, and now by Never Say Never, it is clear – if you give these girls movies they want to see they’ll show up, and they’ll drag their parents with them.

If you’ve already seen Never Say Never with your tween, and she’s still longing for more Bieber, check out his performance at the Grammys last night with Jaden Smith and Usher!
