A family TV favorite bit the dust today, at the very least for the season, possibly for good. Two and a Half Men has been a hit for eight seasons so far, but the incredibly public self destruction of one of its stars, Charlie Sheen, has brought the venerable show to a crashing halt.
Sheen’s behavior has been spiraling out of control for some time now, making what used to be a reliable family favorite troublesome for parents with older children who are following celebrities online. His behavior has continued to escalate until his alarmingly unhinged, and verbally abusive towards Men producer Chuck Lorre, interview this morning on the Alex Jones Radio Show and an even more abusive statement made to TMZ later in the day, finally drove CBS and Warner Brother’s Television to act.
In a statement this afternoon, they put it this way:
“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of Two and a Half Men for the remainder of the season.”
While one can only feel for the many people whose jobs have been cut short by this move, Sheen’s response confirms that he’s clearly in no place to be back at work. Responding to the shut down, he repeating his slurs against ‘Men’s’ creator, Chuck Lorre, and calling him a “contaminated little maggot” and a “worm.”
“I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon,” Sheen ranted. He also proclaimed that the fans of the show were “my people … not yours.” Our guess is that Sheen will find that statement isn’t true of the mostly conservative audience for Men. Hopefully Lorre will find a way to help his crew find new work and Sheen will find the help he needs.
