The first comic book to feature Spider-Man was sold to a private buyer for $1.1 million, a mighty hefty sum considering the book originally sold for 12 cents in 1962. “Amazing Fantasy” No.15 features Stan Lee’s first publication of his Spider-Man character and the cover is an iconic image that will last for decades.

Although, the $1.1 million is not a record for a comic book, that honor belongs to “Action Comics” No. 1 which sold for $1.5 million and features Superman on the cover. The amazing thing (besides Spider-Man of course) is that the previous record for this particular issue was $227,000, that’s what a billion dollar movie franchise does I guess. And with the upcoming reboot to the series, “The Amazing Spider-Man” , set to come out in 2012, the value of this book will only increase.
