Let’s be honest, trying to find the right role model for your kids these days can be difficult. Even Disney kids are getting into trouble these days! That’s why we’ve created a list of who we think are the best role models of 2011. You’d be surprised, many of them aren’t just the actors/singers you think they are.. it seems staying out of trouble opens you up to a world of endless possibilities.. who knew?!
10.) Miranda Cosgrove – Miranda Cosgrove has had nothing but fame and good fortune in her tv and film career. She played Megan in Drake & Josh, Carly in iCarly, has been in School of Rock and even just released her debut album Sparks Fly. She signed on with Neutrogena this year as an ambassador, and was even a voice in Despicable Me. Although, her future plans are still up in the air (She wants to attend collage at USC and NYU but is thinking deferring college for a year to focus on acting) you haven’t heard a peep about her from the paparazzi which in the case of most Disney stars – is definitely a good thing!
9.) Taylor Swift – Taylor Swift has done everything! From singer – songwriter to musician to actress – she’s one of the most talented faces in the country and pop world. Beyond her fame, she’s done much to help the world. She helped launch a campaign to protect children from online predators, she’s donated money to Red Cross and a Nashville television station for flood relief, joined in the fight for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, and BBC Children in Need. While she has been linked other celebrities over the years (Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal) there has never been bad publicity around these relationships which seems pretty hard in Hollywood these days.
8.) Jonas Brothers – The All American boys who grew out of the Disney Channel have been nothing but family oriented and wholesome in their years of fame. Evangelical Christians, the brothers Joe, Kevin and Nick have never shied away from their faith, have reportedly abstained from alcohol, tobacco and drugs, as well as premarital sex. Beyond their views, they are known to have earned an estimated $12 million in 2007, 10% of which they donated to their charity, Change for the Children Foundation, a foundation that donates to children based organizations. When asked about the charity they wrote, “We started The Change for the Children Foundation to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and a will to succeed. And we think the best people to help children are their peers – kids helping other kids who are a little less fortunate.”
7.) Amanda Bynes – From Actress to Fashion designer to singer, Amanda Bynes is definitely an IT girl. She was listed as Forbes fifth highest paid celebrity under 21, with earnings of $2.5 million and was named one of Teen People’s “25 Hottest Stars Under 25”. While she’s stayed away from the paparazzi she does want balance in her life. In an interview with Cosmopolitan she said, “”I used to be known as the girl who was anti the club scene. But I’m finding a balance. I can have a drink and dance if I want. You have to go out to meet people and guys. I’m in that phase where I just want to have fun.” Still at home with her family, she’s managed to stay out of the lime light and still keep her popularity up. From our perspective she’s shown girls how to be successful, have fun, and stay away from the bad stuff all at the same time!
6.) Ashley Tisdale – From The Suite Life of Zack & Cody to Sharpay Evans in High School Musical – Ashley Tisdale has been a major actress in the Disney world over the last few years. But that’s not all – she even signed a solo record deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2006 and since then released two albums. Beyond that, she owns a production company and has worked as an executive producer in movie Picture This. In 2007, Tisdale underwent a septoplasty to correct two small fractures in her nose. She was very vocal about the procedure saying that she wanted to be honest with her fans: The procedure was done for heath related reasons and not out of belief in plastic surgery. She’s also been vocal about her alcohol and drug free life and has managed to stay out of the negative public eye – which unfortunately we can’t say the same about other members of High School Musical.
5.) Cole & Dylan Sprouse – Another member of the Suite Life of Zack & Cody are the list.. Zack and Cody! The Sprouse Brothers are more than just actors. Their brand “Sprouse Bros.” actually includes clothing, comics series and magazine. They bother were accepted to New York University but deferred a year for their acting career. They are both single and have been very respectful of the Disney brand staying out of any potential situations.
4.) Raven Symone – Raven Symone has been in acting since the early days of The Cosby Show playing the ever so memorable Olivia. Since then she’s known as an actress, singer, songwriter, comedian, dancer, television producer and model. At 25, she seen it all and managed to get through unscathed. After slimming down, Raven admits that she thinks twice about what she wears now: “I thought I looked fabulous before and nobody else did. Now I wear bigger clothes because I don’t like the way people stare at me. I liked it before. Now, you’re just looking at me for the wrong reasons. Before, you were actually looking at me for a real reason.” Well we think she looks great, and she’s promoting a healthy lifestyle all the way so we say good for her!
3.) Justin Bieber – We know, we know – enough of Bieber! But Justin is right up there with stars who have always displayed a great image and responsibility. If anything the bullying that he has faced, and countless other pranks he’s been subjected to has made him an even better role model for kids everywhere. Openly Christian, Bieber has never backed down to his opinions about his faith and his beliefs. He’s become one of the most popular faces in the world – and yet scandal-free.
2.) Selena Gomez- Up there with Beiber is girlfriend Selena Gomez of Wizards of Waverly Place. Why do we love her? Not only is she a great actress and singer but she’s also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She’s started her own fashion line, “Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez”, launched her own production company “July Moon Productions .” Beyond that she’s been very open about her catholic faith and about the purity ring she’s worn since she was 12 years old.
1.) Hilary Duff – Our favorite and top role model has to be Hilary Duff. Not only is she a famous actress and singer but she’s also a huge philanthropist as well. Staring in the Lizzie McGuire television series she propelled her career into the feature film world with The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Cheaper by the Dozen, A Cinderella Story, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, According to Great and Stay Cool. She’s released three platinum albums, and launched her own clothing lines, perfume collections, written a novel, and ran her own production company. Beyond that, Duff has been involved in various charities, helped with Hurricane Katrina causes, raised awareness about Anti-LGBT language, became a youth ambassador to the children of Bogota, and is an animal rights supporter. She maintained a scandal free lifestyle probably because she was so busy! For that, she is one of the best role models for your kids!
