Bullying is nothing new. It’s been happening on schoolyards for generations. The only difference now is that the Internet has given everyone a voice in the world and anyone can hear them. With the recent suicides and videos being discussed by millions of people, bullying is the focus of many schools and PTA’s. As more and more bullying cases come to national attention there will be a bigger movement to curb it once and for all. This video should be a big step in that direction.
The video by Alye Pollack, a junior high school student who says that she is bullied constantly at school and while it may not be physical, the words hurled at her hurt just as much. She doesn’t say a word the entire video and instead holds up placards that tell the story of a 13-year-old who is worn out by constant emotional abuse. It’s hard to watch. Seeing her flash her written words about the abuse and how it feels will pull at you. Cards like “I don’t cut. But I’m close” tell you just how much abuse she takes and how it is affecting her.
If you would like to lend your support for Alye, send her an email at wordsdohurt@gmail.com. I truly hope she can get the support she needs to get through those rough years and on the side a better person.
Unfortunately it is often hard for kids to just tell their parents and her parents were unaware there was a problem until after the video was posted. So if nothing more, this video will help this girl and her parents come closer and have a better mutual understanding. While this video won’t stop bullying, it will help put a stop to it in the long run.
