Turns out, royal college kids are just like all the others, they’re impressed by sexy dresses and royal titles, but, if they’re lucky, in the end they realize it’s the friendship that counts when you’re falling in love. A new clip released by TLC of interviews with Prince William and his Princess to be Kate Middleton reveals a little more about their early meetings. It seems they’re two of the lucky ones.
They were immediately interested in each other, it seems. “When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” Prince William, who was famously impressed with Kate’s looks after seeing her model a quite revealing dress in a college fashion show, says in the interview. “I wanted to explore that, but we ended up being friends for a while and that was a good sort of foundation.”
Kate had her own superficial first reaction to her future husband. After seeing him from afar at a hockey game before going away to college, she gushed to friends about the fantasy of marrying a Prince. But, according to one of her friends, Jessica Hay, by the time the pair were dating she seemed far more taken with the young man she called, “Willie” than she was with the Prince of Wales.
“She met this really nice boy,” Jessica told TLC, ”She said a ‘boy.’ I said ‘what’s his name?’ and she said ‘Willie.’ She said he was absolutely lovely and that she might be falling in love.”
