Gah! It’s here! The official trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two has hit the web. Get ready for you, and your kids, to be obsessed!
At this point, it’s hardly a surprise that Part Two looks spectacular, gut wrenching and generally awesome and amazing. It’s also not a surprise, particularly if you’ve read the book, that this trailer doesn’t scream, “appropriate for small children.” Very young fans of the book may just be too scared to sit through this one. For those who haven’t read the books, this trailer contains some spoilery touches, mostly involving who isn’t going to make it through the final battle. These moments look a lot more like spoilers to those who know what’s coming, however, so one doubts that those who haven’t read the novels will have anything ruined for them.
The other major message this trailer sends? Bring a box of tissues when you finally get to see this film. The trailer alone has this Harry Potter fan weepy, and I was almost grown up when I fell in love with these characters. For a whole generation of teenagers, the world has never been without the expectation of a new Harry Potter book or movie. For them, this isn’t just the end of Harry’s childhood, it’s the end of something that has also defined their own childhood.
