A Dutch soccer club, Venlose Voetbal Vereniging, has signed 1-and-a-half-year-old Baerke vander Meij to a symbolic contract after his YouTube video of his soccer skills went viral. It has received almost a million hits and the soccer club is looking to cash in on a little PR.
”The toddler’s favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather,” said a VVV Venlo press release.
They invited the young player to join the team during a practice and there were plenty of pictures to be taken. The contract doesn’t mean a payday for the youngster but it does mean he’s already on the radar of professional sports. He does have it in his blood though, his grandfather was a professional player for the club in the past and as you can see by the video, the little guy can kick it.
