Beyonce’s “Move Your Body” Supports Fight Against Childhood Obesity!

By Bridget Tyler on May 2nd, 2011

Beyonce is joining first lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to teach American children healthy eating.  The pop star has redone her 2007 hit, Get Me Bodied and retitled it Move Your Body in an effort to support Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign.

Her new video for the song has been stacking up the YouTube hits – it’s reached 1.5 million plays in less than a week.  In the video Beyonce invades a junior high school cafeteria and leads the students through eight missions that involve various dance moves.

“It’s all about promoting the benefits of healthy eating and exercise,” Beyonce explains in a behind the scenes clip about the new video. “But what we want to do is make it fun by doing something that we all love to do. And that’s dance.”

According to the Washington Post, the first lady and her campaign weren’t directly involved in making the video but they think it’s a great idea.  A White House spokesman told the Post that Beyonce is, “a great example of how people can get involved with ‘Let’s Move!’ and bring this message to more and more young people.”

This is all great news. I’m glad to see a strong push towards reducing childhood obesity. We as parents really need to wake up and start leading our families to a more improved lifestyle which involves exercise and healthy eating.
