A Michigan woman, who was babysitting for her cousin’s children at the time, created an eBay posting to sell one of them online. She claims that it was a joke. She told Fox 17 news: “It was just a joke, that’s all, you are all taking it way too seriously and blowing it way out of proportion.
“I was just trying to see how this ‘reserve met’ thing works and…I thought well wouldn’t it be funny, seeing as I have all these pictures of her on my computer to put her on there.”
Tracy Cromwell thought it was a joke too when she posted a $1,000 bid for the child. She was shocked when the bid was accepted. She immediately called the police in Allendale, near Grand Rapids, in an attempt to get the child’s name and photograph removed from eBay.
“Once I clicked on got the info, I could easily track her down, had her name and phone number and information, I could have gone to look for her,” Cromwell told WWMT.
Tracy’s call was one of several the police received. They have decided that the baby sitters intentions were probably never to actually sell the child, and now the baby has been safely returned to her mother in Montana.
