Teenagers become superheroes in 'Kick Ass' but before you take your little ones, read the rating. It's rated R 'for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use - some involving children.'

Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

This will be the final edition of FEAK. We hope you enjoyed our column. Follow author Germain Lussier at Real TV Addict.

Every kid dreams of being a superhero: dressing up in a cool suit, going out and fighting crime. What if you could fly, have super strength or be invisible? Literally everyone has thought about this kind of stuff. That exact conceit is the subject of the new film “Kick Ass” which hits theaters today.

By design, the film seems perfect for kids. A young man named Dave (Aaron Johnson) decides that he wants to become a superhero so he dresses up like one, goes out and does it. And though he doesn’t fare too well, his exploits inspire others and then a bunch of newly found superheros, including Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), go out to try and bring down a mob boss.

Since the stars of “Kick Ass” are all teenagers, or at least playing teenagers, parents might choose to ignore the R rating of the film. That R rating that reads “for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use – some involving children.”

Yes, you read that right. Though it features kids and is about kids, “Kick Ass” is about as inappropriate a film for kids under the age of 17 as one can imagine. The violence is off the charts. The language is off the charts and there is sex and drugs mixed in to boot.

To put this in perspective, a young character named Hit-Girl (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) has several scenes where she gets shot, shoots people, cuts off limbs and uses the C-word. Yes THAT “C-Word.” She’s 13, by the way, in real life.

Honestly though, for adults and people who fit in the rating, “Kick Ass” is a fun and fantastic movie. But parents are urged to use caution when their kids ask to see the film. It’s not for them, it’s for you.

If you want a new movie to see with your kids, this weekend, seek out “The Perfect Game” instead. But check out “Kick Ass” when you can. There’s something sinfully superb about watching an 11-year-old beat the crap out of dozens of henchman.

An unbelievable, inspirational true story from the 1957 Little League World Series is the subject of the independent film 'The Perfect Game.' Click here to read about the film and see a theater listing.

In 1957, a group of kids from Mexico came out of nowhere to shock the world at the Little League World Series. Yet, over six decades later, this incredible true sports story isn’t very well known. That’s about to change.

“The Perfect Game” hits theaters on April 16 and tells this unbelievable story. It stars Clifton Collins Jr. as a washed up major leaguer who moves to Mexico to get away from the world. There, a young group of kids who are obsessed with the game – including Jake T. Austin from “Wizards of Waverly Place” and Moises Arias of “Hannah Montana” – recruit him to be their coach. From there, the kids begin to compete against the best in the world all the way to Williamsport, PA and the Little League World Series.

Rated PG for thematic elements, “The Perfect Game” is a great movie for kids of all ages. The “thematic elements” include issues of sexism and racism that the Mexican boys and their team must face over and over again, so be aware of that when you take your kids. And though the film does take almost an hour of its two hour run time to get to the real baseball action, the places this story goes are worth it.

It’s filled with cliches, the baseball action isn’t all that well shot and some of the boys aren’t the best actors but though “The Perfect Game” is a flawed film, it’s so beyond inspirational, if it’s playing in your area – and your kids like baseball or play Little League – they will almost certainly love the film.

Below is a list of theaters playing “The Perfect Game.” Check to see if it’s in your area and – if it’s not – do your best to seek it out. It’s not a big Hollywood production and it definitely needs as much support as possible.

Two new films open this weekend - one with stars of 'The Office' and '30 Rock' and another about postal service to the heavens. Read about them here and see how appropriate each is for your kids.

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

Two of television’s biggest stars team up on the big screen this weekend and another small movie gets a grassroots wide release.

“Date Night” starts Steve Carell (“The Office”) and Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) as a suburban married couple who begrudgingly go into New York City for a preplanned date night. They just want some food, wine and a night away from the kids. However, when they get mistaken for two criminals, the couple finds themselves in the middle of way more action than they want.

Fans of Carell and Fey will find plenty to like in “Date Night.” There’s action and tons of comedy. For adults, this is a home run night out at the movies. What about for your kids, though? The film is rated PG-13 for “sexual and crude content throughout, language, some violence and a drug reference.” Nothing in the film is ever too blatant or overtly racy, but it does center on a bunch of adults in an adult situation. I’d say the PG-13 rating is warranted, but if you let your kids watch these stars on TV, there’s not going to be anything in the film that you’ll find too offensive.

Another film opening this week is “Letters to God,” a small release that will play in about a quarter of the theaters of “Date Night.” It’s the PG rated true story of a boy battling cancer who starts to write – you guessed it – letters to God and it inspires his entire town.

This is obviously a family friendly film, especially if your family counts religion among its core values. There’s a bunch of information on the film at its official Web site which you can get to here, so definitely go check that out.

Those are the new releases for the weekend. If you are curious as to other films currently in theaters and if they are appropriate for kids, here are some more links.

Summer has started very early this year at the local cineplex. Last week’s release of “How To Train Your Dragon” was a, no pun intended, monster success and families surely turned out to enjoy the tale of Toothless and Hiccup.

This week, the huge movies keep coming. On Wednesday, Miley Cyrus’s new movie “The Last Song” came out and it’ll surely be something many families will try to see this weekend. We ran a review of the film on Thursday and basically said that young girls will probably like it, but parents will not. Still – it’s appropriate for tweens and up, as long as they are comfortable dealing with death – which features prominently in the movie.

Also in theaters this weekend is the massive, special effects extravaganza “Clash of the Titans.” It’s a remake of a semi-classic, but very cheesy, 1981 film of the same name that shows how the son of Zeus must try to fulfill his own destiny, even though some of the other Gods don’t approve (Sounds a lot like “Percy Jackson,” right?) In this version, that role is played by that film some people might have seen “Avatar’s” Sam Worthington. He’s joined by a very impressive cast such as Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes.

“Clash of the Titans” is rated PG-13 for “fantasy action violence, some frightening images and brief sensuality” and I think that rating should be upheld as it’s read. The film has some huge action sequences with amazing creatures, but those creatures will surely be very frightening to younger kids. Plus, no one is really wearing any clothes in the entire film.

Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” also hits the big screen this weekend. It’s a sequel to Perry’s 2007 hit “Why Did I Get Married?” and is rated PG-13 for “thematic material including sexuality, language, drug references and some domestic violence.” Again, the rating is probably just about right. However, Perry’s films are certainly more for adults – especially the non-Madea one’s like this that deal with relationships. The film has comedic elements, but gets very serious at times too so make sure your child is wise in the ways of life.

Next week “Date Night” is the big movie and, here’s a sneak peak, it’s really funny. More then.

Ashley Tisdale, one of the stars of the “High School Musical” series, is set to reprise her “HSM” role as drama queen Sharpay Evans in a brand new Disney Channel original movie, “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventures” set to start filming in June for a 2011 premiere. Production Weekly broke the news on Twitter and MTV News provided more details.

In the film, Sharpay and her dog will be heading to New York for a starring role. However, the role is actually for her dog which – if you know Sharpay – will be quite a blow to her ego.

No word on whether her brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) will cameo as, anyone who has seen “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” knows, he is currently in New York City going to Juilliard.

This will mark the first film in the “High School Musical” series since the successful final film in the series. A fourth film in the series was rumored to be in development but there hasn’t been new news in a while. Tisdale will also star in a new pilot for the CW network called “Hellcats.” Not to be confused with the East High Wildcats.

'The Last Song' will make many young girls very happy and frustrate the crap out of the rest of us. The main characters don't really learn anything of value, the performances are horribly lack luster and the story ultimately goes exactly where every other Nicholas Sparks one has before.

On the show “Hannah Montana” Miley Cyrus plays two characters. There’s Miley Stewart, a normal teenage girl and then there’s Hannah Montana, a superstar pop singer. The genius in the show, and her performance, is that the only thing that changes is her hair. Miley is always just Miley.

“The Last Song” marks the singer turned actress’s first big starring role away from “Hannah” and, in it, acting is involved. Uh oh. Her character, Ronnie Miller, is so much more complex than Hannah has ever had to be that Cyrus simply doesn’t have the acting chops to handle it. And that’s just the beginning of the problems with “The Last Song.”

The film is co-written and based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks. You know him. He’s the guy who wrote “The Notebook,” “Nights in Rodanthe,” “A Walk to Remember” and several other romantic dramas that usually end in tragedy. So knowing that, and having seen the trailer to “The Last Song,” one can easily imagine that the film isn’t what it appears.

What it appears to be is about a young girl, forced to spend the summer away from home with her estranged father (Greg Kinnear). She hates him, lashes out against him but becomes more balanced when she meets a boy named Will (Liam Hemsworth). The two enjoy a storybook romance of epic proportions until tragedy befalls them all.

Being as this is more a Miley Cyrus movie than a Nicholas Sparks movie, it has to draw in the young girls and “The Last Song” does that by focusing on Will and Ronnie’s romance for the majority of the time. There’s an incessant and overly coincidental courting, some way too soon swooning and then multiple fights, surprises and immersions in mud, water and more. The whole thing feels way too good to be true and only gets more incredible. And by “incredible,” I mean it in its literal sense – the things that happens are not-credible. They would only happen in a fairy tale.

And that would be fine if that’s what the movie is about. But it’s not. Something happens and the movie twists away from its pop song infused, bubble gum romance. It becomes downtrodden, sad and actually kind of interesting. However, there’s that pesky first 60% of the film that has already happened.

“The Last Song” will make many young girls very happy and frustrate the crap out of the rest of us. The main characters don’t really learn anything of value, the performances are horribly lack luster, we meet pointless characters galore and the story ultimately goes exactly where every other Sparks story has before.

See “The Last Song” only if your kids are 100% totally in love with Miley Cyrus. If they aren’t, then avoid it. It’s not a particularly good movie.

How important is it for kids to understand the literal meaning of songs? One parent was faced with this decision and luckily, he had his video camera on.

Here’s a moral conundrum. You’re driving in the car with your two daughters and one son. They want you to put the pop station on the radio, so you do. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” comes on the radio. The kids go nuts and start dancing and singing.

But, your son starts saying he’s a “Single Lady.” As a parent do you explain to him that he isn’t or do you let him just sing the song? One parent was faced with that decision and the results are pretty funny. Check it out above.

This video poses a bigger question though. Chances are none of the kids truly understood what the song stands for – they just think it’s a catchy tune and it surely is. But should you let them just enjoy it or try to explain to them that it’s about a woman who is giving a man an ultimatum to marry her? Or should you let your son just play within femininity for a while?

Parents, I leave this discussion up to you.

'Say hello to my little friend.' Make that many little friends. Check out this video of 'Scarface' being performed as a school play. But, can this actually be real?

Say hello to these little friends. In this hilarious, but highly disturbing video, it appears that an elementary school put on a censored version of the 1983 Al Pacino film “Scarface.” There are guns, murder, cocaine and a whole bunch of other fudging stuff.

Well, it turns out the video is most likely a fake. The work of filmmaker Jonas Akerlund, who did the latest Lady Gaga video. So parents can breath easy.

Still, there is some sort of odd appeal to this, right?

'How To Train Your Dragon' is destined to be a children's classic. But...is it appropriate for you kids? Click here to find out about that as well as 'Hot Tub Time Machine.'

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

While last week had a major family release with “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” this week is even bigger. Dragon big.

“How To Train Your Dragon” is a hugely promoted, epic, family 3D animated action film featuring the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerald Butler, America Ferrera, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Johan Hill, Craig Ferguson and Kristin Wiig. Baruchel voices a young viking named Hiccup who befriends and learns from a dragon, which is the mortal enemy of his people. We gave the film a positive review at this link, so check that out for more on the specifics of the movie.

As to the question of the film being appropriate for kids, of course it is. There’s some subtle subversive humor but nothing that goes over the line. The one minor issue in the film is the relationship between Hiccup and his father Stoick, voiced by Butler. Their relationship is fleeting at best because Stoick, who is big and strong, is ashamed of Hiccup. And because of that, he says some very hurtful things to, and about, his son. Of course, at the end, things wrap themselves up nicely but the jabs that dad throws at his son can be stinging.

The other major release this week is also a movie your kids might want to see based on the title alone: “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Unfortunately, unlike “Dragon,” this R-rated romp is not for your kids. Filled with language, violence, nudity, it’s a throwback to the 1980s in every kind of way. You, the parent, will surely enjoy all the inside jokes from films like “Better Off Dead” but even if you let your kids see it, not only will they get a whole dose of inappropriate, they are sure not to understand the references.

Next week: “The Last Song” and “Clash of the Titans”

'How To Train Your Dragon' doesn't reinvent the wheel, it just puts some shiny new gloss on it. It provides audiences exactly what they want: a family friendly, epic action film. It's not without some faults, but you'll all be happy that you saw it.

Kids movies always have one major caveat: they are predictable. The unsung hero will prove him, or her, self at the behest of a whole bunch of non-believers and in the end be triumphant. Think “Shrek,” “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars,” “Lord of the Rings,” the list goes on and on. “How To Train Your Dragon” is yet another entry in this time tested genre and draws heavily from each of those films.

Thankfully, because everyone can figure out where the film is going from the first five minutes, “How To Train Your Dragon” has plenty of things to distinguish it and therefore make it worthwhile.

Set on the Viking island of Berk, the movie is about Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), a scrawny young man who doesn’t fit in with his big, strong, people. On this island, the main thing everyone talks about are the dragons that they must kill to sustain life and Hiccup, being so tiny, is regularly mocked for his lack of skill. He haphazardly ends up capturing one of the most mythic of these dragons, the Night Fury, and ends up developing a bond with it. This bond, and the lessons he learns from it, give him extreme skill with the dragons and even his father, Stoick the Vast (voiced by Gerald Butler), is impressed. Things, however, get a little hairy when Hiccup’s secret comes out and it’s up to him to prove himself and save the day.

Several things make “How To Train Your Dragon” stand apart from the ho-hum film it could have been. First is the voice talent. Each of the actors involved: Baruchel, Butler, America Ferrera, Chris Mintz-Plasse, Johan Hill, Craig Ferguson, Kristin Wiig, etc. all give the film a very realistic and humorous tone. They are simultaneously real and engaging. The music by John Powell will give you goosebumps it’s so good and some of the action scenes – the ones of Hiccup flying in particular – are beautiful, epic and will almost bring a tear to your eye.

Begin as it’s such a simple coming of age story, the film does drag a little bit in the middle. The only thing that save it is the fresh, interesting information provided about the viking and dragon cultures.

“How To Train Your Dragon” doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it just puts some shiny new gloss on it (the 3D is a whole lot of fun too). It provides audiences exactly what they want: a family friendly, epic action film. It’s not without some faults, but you’ll all be happy that you saw it.

Both 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' and 'Hubble 3D' open this week and are aimed at family audiences. Is there anything you need to know before spending your hard earned money. FEAK is here to tell you.

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

Chances are that your kids are clamoring to see “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” this weekend. It’s the big family release, the commercials have been everywhere and many of them might be fans of the book.

Well, we reviewed the movie itself right here. Basically, your kids will like it, but they aren’t going to connect to it very easily. Still, the film is most certainly appropriate for kids. It’s rated PG for “some rude humor and language” so be aware of that. There are a lot of gross scenes, scenes of menace (The kids get chased. A lot.), scenes of embarrassment and a whole bunch of language that sounds like it’s straight off the SATs rather than a middle schooler’s journal.

So be sure to know all of that before going into the film.

Also opening these weekend, on a much smaller scale, is “Hubble 3D.” This IMAX movie is playing on a few IMAX screens across the country and, with its G rating, is certainly worth searching out. It’s part educational and part jaw dropping visuals of the universe around us. Plus it’s narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Also still in theaters are “Alice in Wonderland” and “Remember Me,” which were the subjects of the last two FEAK columns. Check those out by clicking the links.

Next week: “How To Train Your Dragon” in 3D.

There's a lot to like in 'Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.' The casting and characters are awesome, the drawings and humor are winning and the film leaves you wanting more. But it feels more like a film about middle school for adults than a film about middle school for middle schoolers.

Greg Heffley, the main character of “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid,” is not a likable person. He’s smug, he’s materialistic, he’s selfish and he’s obsessed with what other people think of him. He sells his best friend out, he picks on his little brother and all the while the audience is supposed to love him.

That is just one of the problems with the film adaptation of “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.” Based on a popular series of books by Jeff Kinney, the film stars Zachary Gordon as Greg, a kid just about to start middle school who is writing in his diary, even though he doesn’t like to call it that. So the audience hears all of his inner most thoughts as he tries to adjust to a very new time in his life: cliques, girls, after school sports, etc.

Great idea, right? Without a doubt, middle school is an awkward time in a young person’s life and is ripe with comedic situations. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” has plenty of those. And while many of them are a little too cliched, others – such as “The Cheese Touch” – are new and really, really funny.

Still – it’s hard to get into this semi-awkward film, funny as it may be, when the main character is so unlikable. And that’s not a knock on Zachary Gordon’s performance – the kid has charisma – but the character himself is near impossible to get behind. Through him, the audience is meant to learn the message “being yourself is cool.” But instead of making it easy and him learning the message in a simple way, the film makes us dig around for it through his interactions with the side characters. That kind of complicated characterization would be fine if “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” was a low budget, independent film, but this is a big budget kids movie. It’s way too difficult for kids to appreciate in the way they should.

Plus, the film constantly feels a little too smart for its own good. Many of the characters in the film are way too worldly. Somehow, even though they are only 13 years old or so, they have the knowledge that middle school is nothing but a pointless stage between childhood and your teen years and should be treated as such. It’s almost as if they’re the adult versions of themselves, transplanted back in school like in films “17 Again” or “Never Been Kissed.”

There’s a lot to like in “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid.” The casting and characters are awesome, the drawings and humor are winning and the film – based on the first book – leaves you wanting more. But, still, it feels more like a film about middle school for adults than a film about middle school for middle schoolers.

Earlier this week, a band called Back of the Class released the above, hilarious music video called “My Mom’s On Facebook.” Then, thanks to the fine folks over at Mashable, it blew up.

Now, we present it to you: the parents.

The lyrics aren’t exactly safe for work, or for your little ones, but this R-rated song gives a funny and truthful take on how kids feel about their parents joining their favorite social networking site.

Chances are your daughters are dying to see Robert Pattinson in 'Remember Me.' Before you rush out to the theater, though, read about some images in the movie that parents might find objectionable.

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

Sure it’s not technically a “Twilight” movie, but “Remember Me,” one of the films that opens this weekend, sure feels like one. First of all, it starts Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” films. Second, it’s about a romance that may not be destined to be and third, it will have the trailer for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” attached to it.

All of those factors are sure to make the little girl in your family beg, beg, BEG to take you to see this film. But…is it appropriate for them?

“Remember Me” is rated PG-13 for “violence, sexual content, language and smoking.” So, right there, the film is giving parents a little bit more than they bargained for, especially compared to the wholesome values in the “Twilight” films. Those films have some violence, but the sexual content and language is basically non-existent.

Still, PG-13 is okay for many parents. In this case, though, there are things that rating doesn’t say. The most important thing for parents to know about “Remember Me” – the thing that isn’t being mentioned in the marketing or commercials of the film - is that it has a bit of a swerve at the end that their young children might be confused, or even, deeply upset by.

Basically, the film stars Pattinson as Tyler, a young man with some serious daddy issues. He falls for,and has a summer fling with Ally, played by Emile de Ravin. The two are just a young couple living in New York, trying to come to terms with things like their budding relationship and their parents. There’s obviously much more too it, but that’s not important to you.

However, and this is a MAJOR SPOILER so if you don’t want to ruin the ending of the movie, STOP READING….

…

…

…

…. but, it turns out that at the very end of the film, we find out that Tyler’s father died on 9/11 and the film uses the images of those buildings to evoke a strong, almost forced, emotional response from the audience.

If you feel your kids can handle such images just so they can see Robert Pattinson fall in love all over again, then go for it. “Remember Me” is getting the type of reviews that one would expect from a simple romance starring young actors like de Ravin and Pattinson. Chances are, the film is fine and you’ll get your moneys worth. But, in the end, “Remember Me” is not all it is cracked up to be an, as a parent, one should decide for themselves if a film with such strong images is truly appropriate for their kids. It very well may be.

And, if you decide it’s not, there’s always “Alice in Wonderland” that you and your family can check out.

By its very nature, 'Alice in Wonderland. is a little darker than most normal children's fare and this version is no different. But, if you click here, we'll give you some examples so you can decide for yourself.

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

It’s finally here! After several weeks of films deemed not at all good for kids, Hollywood has finally heard your call and released a family film.

That film is “Alice in Wonderland” and it is now playing in Disney Digital 3D, IMAX 3D and regular screens from sea to shining sea.

Earlier today we posted a mildly negative review of the PG rated film. It’s rated that “for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and for a smoking caterpillar.” Yes, you read that right, “a smoking caterpillar.” But there was a smoking caterpillar in the first film and that was rated G, so let’s pretend that’s fine.

By its very nature, “Alice in Wonderland” is a little darker than most normal children’s fare and this version is no different. Alice is separated from her family and finds herself in a new world, all alone. However, in his new version, the world of “Wonderland” isn’t as scary as before. Alice has friends – that’s because she has already been before and this time they need her help.

There are a few very scary scenes though. A mouse stabs the eye of a large animal, Alice walks on a river of skulls and she *Spoiler Alert* cuts the head off of a dragon. Each of these parts of the film is certainly going to be a little too much for most kids but, if you took them to see “Alice” in the first place, it should be okay.

Overall – “Alice in Wonderland” is definitely appropriate for kids. It has its moments but it’s no darker than, say, “Coraline” or something like that.

From Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Disney, one would expect more from "Alice in Wonderland." Visually, it's stunning, but story and character wise, it feels more like a bad version of "Shrek."

Before heading out to see the new version of “Alice In Wonderland,” here’s a tip: rewatch the original.

“Why,” do you ask? Well first, because, that’s the “Alice in Wonderland” you are hoping for: light, sweet and kind of eerie. Also, because Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland,” starring Johnny Depp, is nothing more than a glorified sequel to the 1951 classic. Yes, you heard that right. Despite its title, the 2010 “Alice In Wonderland” should really be called “Alice In Wonderland 2.”

And even though that idea sounds downright inspired, what with the huge wealth of Lewis Carroll’s literature Burton and his team could mine, the film is nothing more than a by-the-numbers adventure story populated with all the characters you know and love from the original.

The film starts with young Alice waking up from a nightmare where she remembers falling down a hole, seeing a rabbit in a waist coat and then meeting a blue caterpillar. We flash 13 years later to meet our teenage Alice (Mia Wasikowska) on the way to a very important date. No, not the one you are expecting; this is a very elaborate party with the London elite. Without ruining the surprise, Alice finds herself flustered and winds up following the aforementioned rabbit down a hole and then, well, you know where the story goes from there: Drink Me, Eat Me, etc.

However – that’s where the film deviates from the original. Alice is in Underland (Yes, Underland) for a reason. She is back to help all of the inhabitants defeat the evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). So she teams up with the Mad Hatter (Depp), the White Queen (Anne Hathaway), the Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit, March Hare, Tweedle Dee/Tweedle Dum and the rest to complete the task.

Where most people expect magic and whimsy from “Alice in Wonderland” the only place Burton’s film gives us that is with the visuals. The effects and sets are incredibly impressive and, if you see the film in 3D, it’s way more in your face and aggressive than films like “Avatar” and “Up.” Other than that, though, it never feels like much is at stake or that there’s any real excitement to be had.

With or without 3D though, there’s a good chance that kids might be confused by many of the long names of characters, some of the dull moments and trying to figure out exactly how this movie relates to the original. The script does an adequate job of weaving in how Alice doesn’t remember the first film but it still feels forced.

From a filmmaker and stars of such a pedigree, one would expect more from “Alice in Wonderland.” Visually, it’s stunning, but story and character wise, it feels more like a bad version of “Shrek.”

With all her television appearances and movie roles, it’s easy to forget that Miley Cyrus is primarily a music artist.

You’ve probably played Mouse Trap with your kids before. You might have even let them line up some dominos and then knock them down in succession.

Well, the band OK Go has taken that to a whole new level. This video for their song “This Too Shall Pass” is just insane and will have your and your kids picking up your jaws from the floor and asking question after question after question.

Here’s hoping someone does a physics lesson that uses this video. Check it out above.

“Finding Entertainment Appropriate for Kids,” or FEAK, runs every Friday and discusses places – mainly the movie theaters – where parents can look to find things for their kids to watch over the weekend.

Another weekend at the movies, another two R rated films. The two big film releases this weekend, “Cop Out” and “The Crazies,” both might register on your child’s radar but – whether they are good or bad films – neither is appropriate for those kids.

“Cop Out” stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan and is rated R for “pervasive language including sexual references, violence and brief sexuality.” The film is supposed to be a throwback to the ’80s buddy cop movies like “Lethal Weapon” and “48 Hours.” So if you let your kids watch those, this is fine. But since you probably don’t, you should probably wait on this one.

The other film, “The Crazies” is a hyper kinetic zombie movie starring Timothy Olyphant. It’s rated R for “bloody violence and language.” Think “28 Days Later” or “Zombieland.” It’s not totally serious, but it’s seriously violent and gory so be very aware.

With those two films, and “Shutter Island” last week, there haven’t been many good family films out in the last few weeks. There’s “Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief” and, next week, “Alice in Wonderland.” Check out some of the photos and videos we’ve already posted with much more coming.
